Harry Schmale

OCEAN PARK — It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Schmale announces his passing at the age of 95 on September 1, 2018 at his home in Ocean Park, Washington. 

Harry was born on Dec. 1, 1922, in Carver, Oregon. He was one of 13 children who have all preceded him in death. Harry was a SeaBee in the Navy during World War II. After the war he worked as an auto mechanic. He owned Jackson’s Garage in Portland. 

Harry’s passion in life was fishing and hunting. He was an active member of the Antler and Fin Club. He loved taking his friends fishing out of Ilwaco, Wash. He was a commercial fisherman in Kenai, Alaska. After retirement and the passing of his first wife, Peggy, he moved to Long Beach, Wash., where he met and married, Mickey Padgett in 2002. Harry was a member of the Ocean Park Eagles and Ocean Park Moose, where Mickey and Harry had many dear friends.

Harry married his first wife, Peggy (Margaret) Boyer at the age of 19. They were married for 52 years before her death in 1994. They had four children, Bonnie Schulson of Tigard, Oregon, Judy Dalrymple of Vancouver, Wash., Timothy Schmale (deceased) and Cindy Cummings of Portland, Oregon. His three stepchildren are John West of Anchorage, Alaska, Lori Gross of Anchorage, Alaska and Christa Revell of Cathedral City, California. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held in Ocean Park on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Ocean Park Eagles, 1409 Bay Avenue. Services will be held in Portland on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at Riverview Abbey, 0319 SW Taylors Ferry Road.
