Robert D. "Bob" Preuss Jr.

September 26, 1946 — March 10, 2018

ILWACO — Robert “Bob” Preuss Jr., 71, died in Ilwaco on March 10, 2018. A native of Seattle, he was a 20-year Peninsula resident. Bob was a Navy veteran. He served as Postmaster for the Seaview post office. He was born Sept. 26, 1946, in Seattle.
He said: “I wrote my own obituary to save others from being bored and writing B.S. I can’t complain about my life, it was fairly good for the most part. Would I change any of it? Sure, anyone will say they would change some parts. Be a better husband and father, of course, I think most reasonable men would want that. Everything you do is a ‘life experience,’ some very good, some not — but through it all if you pay attention, you learn more and more about life.
When you remember me, remember how I liked to laugh, fish, hunt, ride my bikes, work on cars/trucks. Loved a good trade, that should put a smile on all your faces. To paraphrase someone, “I never did a trade I didn’t like.” If I had a nickel for every dollar lost on a trade, I would have died rich!
That’s about all till I see some of you again; all my love to my wife, my kids and my friends.
Aaron, my lad, when you spread my ashes on Edwards Butte, scatter me to the four winds. My young friends are waiting to be together on our final patrol.
Fair winds and a following sea to us all.”
Bob is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Shawn (Aaron) Blanchard of Tillamook; son, Shane Burdett of Connell and daughter, Angella (Dana) Drake of Long Beach; as well as grandchildren Grace, Timber, Kevin, Hope, Kaylee, Levi and Brittnee; great-grandchildren Maryann and Ethan, and a sister, Betty Gienger of Portland.
A Celebration of Life will be a potluck at the Ocean Park Eagles, on March 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
