Carol J. Ross

February 16, 1931 — March 28, 2016

Carol J. Ross passed away peacefully at Canterbury Gardens in Longview on March 28, 2016, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for several years.

She was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Astoria, to Gladys and Arvid Magnuson. She was their only child. She lived most of her life in Naselle and attended Naselle schools.

Carol married Melvin Ross July 23, 1948, and they enjoyed 67 years together.

She worked at Sleepy Hollow Motel and then in the Bumble Bee Cannery in Astoria before retiring from the Chinook Cannery at the age of 69.

Carol loved shopping, collecting dolls, dishes and Dickens villages. She enjoyed music, listening to the Sunday “Scandinavian Hour” and played the accordion. She also knitted and crocheted. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her husband, Melvin at the Canterbury Gardens; three daughters, Sharon Nagle and Marilyn Morris (Bob), both of Kelso and Genita Ross of Naselle; six grandchildren, Jeff Ross, Angie Morris, Nicole Oshi, Mikko Ross (Chandra), Ryan Morris (Missy) and Aaron Craig; five great-grandchildren, Dominique Oshi, Conin Oshi, Daryn Morris, Tyson Morris and Arvid Ross; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arvid Magnuson; her mother and stepfather, Gladys and Andrew Samuelson; a son, Kenny Ross; and a granddaughter, Alison Craig.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial has taken place at Peaceful Hill Cemetery in Naselle.

The family is grateful to the staff at Canterbury Gardens for all the care they provided Carol over the past three-and-a-half years, and to Hospice for making her last day peaceful.
