Paul E. Clarke

February 8, 1927 — January 3, 2016

Long Beach resident Paul E. Clarke, 88, died at his residence on January 3, 2016 surrounded by his family. 

Paul was well loved by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jackie Clarke, of Long Beach; sons Mark Clarke, of Long Beach and Steve (and Karen) Clarke of Seaview; daughter Sandi (and Eli) Kendrick of Vancouver, WA;  sister Jeanne Kelly of Milwaukie, Oregon;  loving nieces and nephews, sister and brother in laws, five grandchildren and six6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Edith Clarke and his father J. H. Clarke.

Paul's college experience was interrupted when he was drafted into the US Army, where he served in Japan and earned many medals. When his service was fulfilled, he completed college at Purdue University and earned a degree in Horticulture.

He ran a successful rhododendron nursery (Clarke's Nursery) for many years and his legacy lives on in many yards and gardens around the country. He was involved in his community and Pacific County by serving many boards, committees and projects. He served on Pacific County's Agricultural Stabizliation and Conservation Committee for 10 years. He was on the School Board for Ocean Beach School District, Fire Commissioner for Fire District #1, and served as deacon, elder and treasurer for Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church and worked with different service organizations.
