Anna M. "Annie" Moore

December 19, 1923 — September 11, 2015

Long Beach resident Anna "Annie" Margaret Moore, 91, died in a local care facility on September 11, 2015. The daughter of Joseph and Julia (Kratky) Moore, she was born at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa on December 19, 1923. Annie had a rather challenging childhood. Her mother was an immigrant and her father a "no show Bohemian" and so her first three years were spent in St. Monica's Baby fold Home. Later her mother married Anton Benda and Annie's ½ sister was born in 1926. When Annie was age 10 her mother died as a result of a "freak" accident and her step-father attempted to keep the family together with the assistance of housekeepers. But is was not to be, and Annie was placed in St. Anthony's Orphanage (an all girls boarding school) where she remained until becoming an adult. Annie received her education at Lowell Elementary in Sioux City, later graduating from Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, Iowa in 1942. Annie worked for Bell Telephone as an operator. In 1972 she came to Long Beach where she was employed by Telephone Utilities until they ceased operation. In her later years she worked odd jobs until retirement called. Annie enjoyed visiting with her many friends at Mary Lou's in downtown Long Beach "while sippin' a brew or two". She also enjoyed her peppermint tea at Cottage Bakery until her four-wheel walker took up too much space and that ended. Annie never married and there are no family survivors. Her special friend Jenny Norman of Ocean Park has been a blessing to Annie. Graveside service for Annie will be Friday, September 18, 2015, 11:30 AM at Lone Fir Cemetery in Long Beach. Friends are invited. Her guestbook is available at www.penttilaschapel.com.
