Allen Axel Larsen

Allen Axel Larsen died of pneumonia at 9 am on the morning of Thursday, January 22, 2015 with his loving companion Barbara Ann Maul at his bedside. Allen is survived by his three daughters: April Ann Zimmerman, Tracy Lynn Pack and Christine Waters, his brother Harlan K Larsen and sisters Sharon K Bolton and Diane L Kubiak, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Allen Larsen and his devoted wife Margaret Caroline (McCoy) Larsen of 29 years. Allen was born to Marvelyn Hoakinson and Axel A Larsen on November 4, 1933 in Dickey, North Dakota. His early years were spent in Costa Mesa, California, where according to tradition; Allen and his brother Harlan went to sea and learned the fishing trade from their father. Allen served in the Army and fought in the Korean War with the 224th Infantry. In 1968, Allen Larsen Captained a 76-foot trawler, the F/V Cassie with his brother Harlan and brother-in-law Don Kubiak on the F/V Lille Baelt and the F/V Skagerrak, respectively. They were headed toward their new home in Texas, via the Panama Canal. After almost a decade of shrimping the Gulf of Mexico, Allen followed the fish to Morro Bay, California where he spent the next two years. In 1977, Allen moved with his wife Margaret and children, Mark and Christine to Long Beach, Washington where he finally settled for the rest of his life. He fished, he crabbed and proudly captained the F/V's the Diane, the Taasinge, the Caroline, the Pacific Breeze, the Mary-E, the Rosewood,and the Audrey Ann. After retiring as a commercial fisherman, Allen spent his remaining years working for the Port of Ilwaco as the boat hoist operator. Allen was a member of both the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Peninsula Moose Lodge where he enjoyed volunteering as a cook. He will be remembered by the Moose Lodge for his broasted chicken. Every other Friday, Allen could be found serving his community at the Ilwaco Food Bank. Allen Larsen loved life and all animals great and small. He will be dearly missed. A public celebration of his life will be conducted at 12:00 Noon at the Peninsula Moose Lodge on Friday, January 30th. A private committal service will be held at a later date.
