Jan Grambo

November 16, 1945 — January 8, 2015

Long Beach resident Jan G. Grambo, 69, died in Astoria on January 8, 2015. The daughter of John and Nell Goff, she was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 16, 1945. Jan lived in Memphis all her early life and graduated from Central High School "class of '63". She attended Memphis State University for two years, then in entered Methodist Hospital nursing school and became a registered nurse. She worked in the spinal cord injury department at the hospital. In 1972 she moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked at the Portland VA Medical Center in the psychiatry department. When Providence Hospital in Portland opened a new psychiatric unit, Jan became the nurse manager. She retired from nursing in 1994 and moved to Long Beach. Jan and husband Richard developed and managed the Lighthouse Ocean Front Resort on the Peninsula. For a number of years Jan was active with the Long Beach Rotary club and was a member of the Jaguar Club of Oregon. She enjoyed reading, knitting, traveling, people and Hawaiian sunshine. She was blessed with a sweet Southern accent; was warm, gracious, and witty; was caring and comforting; and always smiling. She was loved deeply..."rest in peace my love". Jan married Richard Grambo in 1976. He survives residing at the family home in Long Beach. Also surviving are son Mark Newsom of Portland; step-daughter Christi Grambo Davis of Longview; sister-in-law Janet Pontious of Longview; grandchild Caylee Newsom; step-grandchildren Jarod, Jordon and Mike Nickerson. Her parents have preceded her in death. Celebration of Jan's Life will be held Saturday, January 31st, 2015, 2:00 PM at The Inn at The Harbor Village, 120 Williams Ave. NE, Ilwaco. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the OHSU Foundation/Latent Alzheimers Research Center, 112 SW Salmon St., Suite 200, Portland, Oregon 97205.
