William J. Pratt

November 10, 1931 — November 2, 2014

Naselle resident William J. "Bill" Pratt, 82, died in Astoria on November 2, 2014. A native of Govan, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was born there on November 10, 1931, the son of James and Vera Pratt. Bill grew up in Canada where he received his education. In 1961 Bill came to the US as a permanent resident. He worked construction throughout the western US as an electrical lineman. In 1975 he met Diane Heiner in Naselle and they soon became a couple. They married September 11, 1982 and were seldom apart thereafter. Bill continued working as a lineman until retirement and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 125 of Portland. In younger years, Bill loved to hunt and fish. Later he and his brother enjoyed quality time together fishing in northern Saskatchewan.. Golf, though, was his passion. He enjoyed wintering in Mesa, Arizona where he could golf every day, only to return home to Naselle where he golfed with his longtime buddies. Blessed with a great sense of humor and heart of gold, underneath his sometimes gruff exterior was a warm and caring man who loved his step children and their children and their children, all of whom will miss him dearly. Bill is survived by his wife Diane of Naselle whom he always referred to as "Lovey"; step-sons Scott Heiner, Dale Heiner, Douglas Heiner and David Heiner; brother Orville Pratt; sister Joy Anderson; brother-in-law Chuck Hill; eight step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Assembly of God on Naselle. A reception follows at the church.
