David Van Dorien

Longtime Ocean Park resident David D. VanDorien, 98, died August 21, 2013 in Jackson, Mississippi. He had moved there to be closer to his daughter, Joann Meyers of Florence, MS. Mr. Van Dorien was a oysterman and worked for a number of companies on Willapa Bay where he was well known for his knowledhe of the fishery and his work ethic. He loved working in his garden after retirement. On September 18, 1937 he married Ruth Pierce in Miami, Oklahoma. They lived in Baxter Springs, Kansas until moving to Ocean Park in 1943. Ruth passed away in 1998. David is survived by daughter Joann Myers of Florence, MS; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife and a son David who died in 1953.
