Lillian Marie Shefler

February 12, 1928 — September 18, 2012

Lillian M. Shefler, 84, a native of Long Beach, died September 18, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. The daughter of Clayton and Mary (Patterson) Salikie, she was born February 13, 1928. Her father was a native American and full-blooded Clatsop Indian and her mother was of Hawaiian ancestry. Following high school Lillian married Robert D. Shefler in 1960 in Seaside, Oregon and became a wife, mother and homemaker. She resided in Seaside and later southeast Alaska until 1992 when she returned home to Long Beach. Lillian was happiest being outdoors. Gardening, beach combing, clam digging and yard work were favorite endeavors. She took great pride in her flowers and no matter where she lived her home and yard stood out for the care and attention Lillian paid to them. Lillian was proud of her ancestry and was an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian nation. Survivors include her daughter Shelly (Roger) Forsberg; sons Marvin (Dixie) Dorsey and Robert Shefler Jr.; brothers Arlen Gassner and Frank Logan; grandchildren Mechelle Johnson, Heather Lopez, Jason Fournier, Kali Sanchez and Justin Forsberg; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other members of her extended family. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held Sat., October 20, 2012, 12 Noon until 5 PM at Eagles Nest, 700 W. North Head Rd., Ilwaco.
