Mary Jones

January 19, 1926 — December 29, 2006

A long time resident of the Long Beach Peninsula, Mary 'Irene' Jones died in Kirkland, WA on December 29, 2006. She was 80 years old. Mary Irene LaBreche was born January 19, 1926 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was raised in Connecticut by her parents Mary Haveron LaBreche and Basil E. LaBreche. Irene leaves her two sisters and a brother, Margaret M. Regan of Portland, OR, Norma T. Pence of Richland WA and Gerald LaBreche of Seattle, WA. Irene graduated from Ellsworth High School in South Windsor, Conn. in June 1943. From there Irene attended the St. Agnes Home, School of Nursing where she received a diploma in obstetrics and pediatric nursing in September 1945. Irene and her family moved to Portland, OR in 1946. Irene went to work at the Waverly Baby Home where she worked as a nurse. Irene also did private duty pediatric nursing and loved working with babies and young children. Irene met Robert George Jones in 1948 and they were married on April 20, 1949 at Saint Stephens Catholic Church in Portland, OR. Irene and Robert made their first home in Altoona, WA. Irene and Robert started their family right away and loved their eight children, all of whom are living in Washington and Oregon. Irene recently lost her husband of 57 years, Robert George Jones, Sr. They had lived in the Long Beach area since 1971 and had been members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Seaview since 1955. Irene had been an active member of the St. Mary's Altar Society, and in prior years had been an active member of the St. Teresa Club in the Rosburg/Naselle area. She is survived by her eight children and sixteen grandchildren: Robert Jones, Jr. of Warrenton (granddaughter Debra Ann, grandson Michael), daughter Patricia Jones-Woods (partner Dale Welling) of Olympia, WA (granddaughter Angela, grandson Kelly), daughter Carol Jones Schoenfelder of Snohomish, WA (son in law Tom, grandson Tommy and granddaughter Mary), daughter Julie Jones Cartwright of Mt. Angel, Oregon (son in law Jim, grandson Joseph), daughter Teresa Jones of Ocean Park (grandson Andrew), son Jonathan G Jones of Stayton, OR (grandson Jonny), son James A. Jones of Ilwaco (granddaughters Jessica, Lindsey, and grandson Tyler) and son Joseph M. Jones of Scotts Mills, OR (daughter in law Rachel, granddaughters Cassidy and Hailey and grandson Joey). She also leaves three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Irene loved spending time with family, especially her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Irene loved her husband Robert, and was very saddened by his loss this past October. They had been best friends for 58 years. Irene was a wonderful mother and truly enjoyed being around her babies. Recitation of The Holy Rosary will be held Saturday, January 6, 2007, 10:30 AM at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 1465 Grand Ave. in Astoria. Funeral Mass follows at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held in the church hall and graveside committal service will be at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton at 1:30 PM Saturday afternoon.
