Barbara Barstad

Ocean Park resident Barbara E. Barstad, 81, died January 25, 2007 in Long Beach. One of five children born to John and Ada (Peel) Lozier, Barb was born in Medford, Oregon on April 9, 1925. Her father was a truck driver and the family lived wherever he found work throughout Oregon. Eventually the family settled in Portland where Barb graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School. Barb married Robert Barstad on August 24, 1945 and they honeymooned on the Long Beach Peninsula. Settling in Portland Barb was a devoted wife and mother. She also worked as a switchboard operator at the Portland Airbase until retiring in 1983. In 1984 she moved to Ocean Park. Barb was a member of Ocean Park Eagles. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Her family and especially her grandchildren were very special to her and they will miss this special lady. Besides her husband of nearly 62 years, Barb is survived by daughter Connie Hashin of Vancouver, WA; son Steven Paul Bennke of Vancouver; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2007, 1:00 PM at Penttila's Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A reception follows at the chapel.
