It was a misty morning on the Evergreen Coast when David Michael McGee, 77, of Long Beach, WA, passed away on February 18, 2026.

David was born on March 8, 1948 in Dixon, IL to his late parents, Frank Raymond McGee, Jr. and Elizabeth Louise Bemis. He enjoyed wrestling in high school with a penchant for building things. David became a skilled craftsman working in construction, which fed his nomadic spirit from the Midwest to Northern California, Oregon and Central Texas. When he migrated to the Pacific Northwest, he put his carpentry acumen and quick wit to work, managing and owning pawn shops until he retired.

David's fierce intelligence and humor touched many lives through the years, including his five children and their mothers. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with friends and family, and was a voracious reader, especially western novels. He loved to play golf, and transitioned to watching the sport later in life. He also had a pet parrot, Loretta, who kept him company for decades. David was happiest living on the coast and breathing the fresh, briny air.

He is survived and loved by his daughter Kelley Beth McGee McCray of OH, grandchildren Ryan Harris and Kameron McCray, and great grandchildren Jocelyn Harris and Orion Harris; son Michael Sean McGee of HI and granddaughter Eden McGee; David Todd McGee of CA; Crescent Louise McGee Hathaway Seward of CA; Cavan Jacob McGee Hathaway of WA; sister Beth Ann White of TX; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his brothers Robin Sears of FL, Jim McGee of IL, Frank Sears of TX, and Dan Sears of WA; and a handful of friends that were taken from this earth too soon. 

The family plans to send David off on his final journey in an undisclosed ceremony at his favorite beach along the Washington coast. Together, David’s children will guide his sails into the sunset to a round of golf claps.
