David Anthony Pickering, born on May 17, 1958, in California, was a cherished soul who graced the world with his humor, wisdom, and warmth until his passing on September 20, 2024, in Long Beach, Washington. David was known for his funny and witty nature, complemented by a wry sense of humor.
David worked as a postmaster in California and a manager at Oysterville Seafood. He shone not only in his professional endeavors but also in his personal pursuits. A proud lifetime member of the VFW and a past president of the Eagles, David was deeply involved in his community. His passion for collecting stamps flourished under the mentorship of Ray Millner, highlighting his appreciation for history and detail.
A passionate and nurturing soul, David had a well-known soft spot for animals. He famously rescued his favorite cat Sylvia during a storm, and from that day forward, she could always be found cuddling close by him. David also found joy in growing roses, fishing, cooking, and strolling along the beach and listening to music.
David's educational journey began at Newark Grammar School, later continuing at Fremont High School. His military service in the Army from 1980 to 1982, stationed in Germany, reflected his lifetime commitment to duty and service.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jannice McGillvray Pickering; his sons, Tom Pickering of San Andreas, CA, and Mike Pickering of Burney, CA; his daughter, Marissa Pickering; his caring mother, Robin Harrington of Rockaway Beach, OR; his sister, Lisa Gillit of OR; and his brothers, Steve Pickering of WA, Kel Pickering of FL, and Jeff Pickering, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
David was predeceased by his father, Harvey Pickering, whose legacy of strength and love undoubtedly influenced David's own path in life.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of David Anthony Pickering on October 11, 2024, at the Elks Lodge #1937 located at 110 Pacific Ave, Long Beach, WA. With a potluck beginning at 2:00 PM, family and friends will gather to reminisce and celebrate the extraordinary life of an extraordinary man whose spirit will live on through countless memories and stories.
