Ocean Park

Fred Carter passed away on October 16th peacefully at home in Ocean Park WA at age 78. Fred was born in Emporia Kansas to Donald Harrison Carter and Edna Mae Brewer Carter. While he was young his family moved to Denver Colorado, where Fred and his siblings grew up. After high school he joined the Air Force, and ended up in Turkey, where he bought a car, and in his spare time, toured the country and learned a little of its language.

He retired from the Denver Sheriff’s Department as the Finance Director. He had a Master’s degree in Computer Science and taught part-time at a college in Denver. His last job was as the Office Manager at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center where he was well loved.

Fred’s big love was music and golf. He started playing, writing and singing songs at a young age and was a very popular musician on the peninsula. He would play at all of the local venues and anytime he was asked to play for a charity he was willing and ready.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gerald “Zeke” Carter. He is survived by his wife Vicki Carter, his brothers Donald Carter, and Michael Linn, and his sister Sandy Meyers. He has four children and two step-children, Sheila Rowell, Polly Carter, Barbi Carter, Matthew Carter, David Bernard and Holly Bernard, and many grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Peninsula Senior Activity Center on November 16th at 2 pm. It will be a dessert potluck and all musicians and friends are invited to come and play music, sing, and remember our dear Fred!
