Obituary

Garland Blake Miller passed away peacefully in his home in Ocean Park, WA, on April 2, 2026, at the age of 101 1/2, with his Daughter Connie at his side.

He was born on September 12, 1924, to Albert "Blake" Miller and Barbara "Helen" (Orander) Miller, in Lyons, Nebraska. The family sold their farm in Nebraska in 1937 to move out west to Long Beach, WA, along with his maternal grandparents.

While in school, he not only was a caddy, but the mowed the greens for $1 a day. After attending Ilwaco High School, he worked as a commercial clam digger and drove a truck for Bub Baker before serving the in the Army during the Korean War.

Once he returned home from the military, he worked for Templin and Provo logging companies for several years. He then switched careers and became a commercial fisherman, working on a few boats before buying the "Seapride" and fishing on his own.

Not only was he a fisherman, but an avid hunter that brought home a deer every year, as well as 33 Elk!

He raised many mink and was also a trapper. Cutting wood was another of his favorite hobbies and he loved puttering around on his tractors and was always quietly helping and doings things for other people. He was always very good at including his kids in his "fun" hobbies, such as clam digging, fishing, beach coming, taking mini road trips to see nature, wood cutting, teaching us gun safety and taking us target practicing, teaching us to drive and many seemingly insignificant, but huge to us, activities around his property. We will forever remember his many, many stories of his adventures and experiences throughout his lifetime.

He was always very close with his parents, which made them an incredibly important part of our lives, since they lived just a mile away.

In 1952 he married Marlene VanGriethuysen, and they had three children; Darrell Miller (Becky), of Seaview, Connie Miller, of Ocean Park, and Nancy Miller, of Long Beach. He and Marlene later divorced.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Blake and Helen Miller. Survivors include his three children, one grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per his request, there will be no service.
