Gary D
Boyd Jr.
May 30, 1957 — Aug 2, 2026
Long Beach
In Loving Memory of Gary Boyd Jr
Gary Boyd was a quiet, gentle, and kind-hearted man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life; he had a sweet tooth, a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife.
Gary was born in Bemidji, Minnesota. He graduated from high school in Rathdrum, Idaho, and went on to earn his civil engineering degree in Moscow, Idaho. He began his career with the U.S. Forest Service in the Idaho Panhandle, where he worked as an aerial observer. During that time, he earned his private pilot's license and also served with the Air Force Reserves.
It was while working in the Idaho Panhandle that Gary met Mary, who also worked for the Forest Service. They fell in love, married, and began building their life together. Gary lovingly stepped into the role of father to Mary's son, Brandon Olson, becoming an important and cherished part of his life.
Gary and Mary eventually transferred their careers and moved their family to Missoula, Montana. After Mary retired, they moved to Redmond, Oregon. When Gary retired, they finally made their way to a place they had loved and visited for many years—Long Beach, Washington.
Gary loved Long Beach. He enjoyed walks on the beach, watching wildlife visit their property, attending the annual kite festival, and wandering through local garage sales. But perhaps one of his greatest joys was Bella, his beloved four-legged friend who lived next door who held a very special place in his heart. Gary delighted in celebrating Bella's birthdays, throwing elaborate parties that showed just how much love and happiness she brought into his life.
Gary leaves behind his adoring wife, Mary; his stepson, Brandon Olson; Gary's mother, Lorraine Boyd; and all those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He leaves behind a lifetime of wonderful memories—of family, friendship, quiet moments, adventures, beaches, wildlife, laughter, and love.
Gary may have been a shy guy, but his gentle presence, generous heart, and the love he gave so freely will be deeply missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many little things that will always bring him to mind.
Rest peacefully, Gary. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
