Harold “Coke” McGrew, 94, of Long Beach, WA, passed away on November 22, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1929 in Orofino, ID to the late Harold and Georgia McGrew.

Coke, as he was affectionately known, was a man of honor, integrity, and kindness. He possessed a remarkable sense of humor that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Coke is survived by his loving son, David McGrew of Camas, WA, and his devoted longtime companion Susan Clark of Ocean Park, WA. He also leaves behind cherished memories for his three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Peggy McGrew and his beloved daughter, Lonnie McGrew.

After graduating from Camas High School, Coke served his country with distinction in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the esteemed Destroyer USS Leonard F. Mason DD852.

Following his military service, Coke embarked on a successful career as a Photography Technician at the Camas Paper Mill in the Central Research Department. His dedication and expertise were highly regarded, and he retired in 1987 after 40 years of service. In his retirement, Coke & Peggy embarked on a new adventure, spending nine years embracing the freedom of full-time RV’ing. Eventually, they found solace and contentment in Long Beach, WA where they established a cherished residency.

In his free time, Coke enjoyed participating in team bowling leagues at Riverside Bowl in Camas. He was also an avid bird and duck hunter, as well as a very accomplished fisherman, particularly when it came to steelhead fishing on the Washougal River and Kalama River. Coke thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of fishing with countless friends and family members.

A celebration of Coke’s life will be held later in the summer when a larger group of family and friends can attend.

Coke will be deeply missed by his loved ones and friends. His memory will live on through the stories and memories shared by those who knew him.
