Kenneth Frederick Schuerman

April 18, 1941 — August 17, 2023

Ocean Park, WA

Kenneth (Ken) Frederick Schuerman Jr., 82, of Ocean Park, Washington passed away on Thursday, 17 August 2023. He was in the loving care of Hospice volunteers and medical staff in Centralia, Washington. In May 2023, Ken was admitted to Prestige Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center for several health related illnesses.

Ken was born 18 April 1941, to parents Kenneth and Martha (Marty) Schuerman in Decatur, Illinois. His siblings were Joseph (Cindy) Schuerman, Linda (Clyde) Gregory, and Carol (Bob) Novak, along with numerous nephews and nieces. His wife, Janice Mary (Stevenson) Schuerman preceded him in death 22 May 2006 at the age of 62. They were married 10 October 2000 in Pacific County, Washington.

He was an avid reader with a love of music, food, and nature. He spent many happy years in Ocean Park doting on his cats and enjoyed watching birds bathing and drinking in the “hub cap” fountains he created. Ken could often be seen biking around town and enjoyed chatting with neighbors.

Ken was a self described hermit, so little is known about his past. He once told his landlord that he did not own nor would he ever own a telephone, “I don’t want the Government to find me!” As he was a Registered Voter and Social Security recipient, you just gotta smile at that. What is known is that he served Honorably in the United States Army from June 1959 through May 1962 and then transferred to the United States Army Reserve until June 1965. In the Army, he was stationed in Germany as an Operating Room Specialist (Surgeon’s Assistant). Ken’s memories of Germany included “imbibing the wonderful beer and enjoying the cuisine”. This brought a mischievous grin to his face. His career after the  army was that of a Chef and Registered Nursing Assistant.

Those of us who knew Ken, already miss him. His kindness will never be forgotten.

Cremation services will be conducted by Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea. Per his wishes, there will be no formal service. Ken’s ashes will be returned to nature.

Donations may be made to Hospice or a charity of your choice.
