Larry Hanson

July 12, 1943 — March 3, 2024

Larry (Butch) William Hanson passed from this world in the comfort of his home in Naselle, Washington on March 3, 2024.

Larry was born on July 12, 1943 in Sumner, Washington to Bill and Violet Drahos Hanson. He spent his childhood in Puyallup Valley. Larry graduated from Puyallup High School in 1961.

On December 24, 1982, Larry married the love of his life, Joan Lee Austin Hanson in Reno, Nevada. Larry and Joan were married 42 years.

Larry was an Operating Engineer for local 612 for 17 years. He then worked as a Field Construction Inspector for Firgrove Mutual Water Company until his retirement in 2006.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his time hunting and fishing. Throughout his time in Naselle, he developed a fantastic friendship with a group of fishermen. They spent many hours fishing for salmon in the river near their home. Larry was extremely creative and a talented craftsman. In the 80’s, Larry built a log home from ground up. He cut and processed all of the logs, designed the layout and built a beautiful home.

Larry leaves behind his wife of 42 years: Joany of Naselle, Wa. His son, Richard (Rick) Hanson of Puyallup, Wa, Sisters Sharron (Shay) Rogers of Puyallup, Wa, Karen (Kay) Roose of Spanaway Wa, and Sandy Langford of Tacoma, Wa.

Preceded in death by mother Violet Hanson and father Bill Hanson

Larry will be remembered fondly through his devotion to his wife Joany and his love for his son, he was everybody’s friend, his love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, his craftsmanship, building a log home from the ground up on his own.  Larry had many friends and seemed to always have room for one more. His sense of humor (his sayings) always left a smile (or a good laugh) with those he encountered. He was full of kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
