Obituary

Linda June Chaney, of Long Beach, Washington, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1948, in Newberg, Oregon.

Linda was the beloved daughter of June Jensen Newton and Robert Paul Newton and lived most of her life in the Milwaukie and Portland area of Oregon. She went to Clackamas High School and continued on with business college. She had a career in secretarial and administration jobs. Her favorites were working for The Zell Brothers, and The Multnomah Athletic Club, where she met the love of her life, James Chaney. They were married in 1999. She also enjoyed working at Oregon City High School, she really enjoyed being somewhat of a mentor to the students.

Linda volunteered at Oregon Right to Life and was the president of the Oregon chapter. She was big on animal rescue and fostered numerous amounts of kitties. She most recently was a big supporter of Furry Friends of Vancouver.

She carried a strong faith that guided her throughout her life. She attended Ocean Beach Fellowship Church and found great comfort and strength in her relationship with God.

She was known for her kind heart, joyful spirit, friendliness, unwavering faith, sense of humor, and she touched the lives of many through her compassion and willingness to help others. Linda found joy in life with her cats, walks on the beach with her dog, Beau, and she especially treasured time spent with her family and friends. She was an advocate of gathering the community together for time down by the firepit at Chautauqua. She was overjoyed when family would visit, especially her grandchildren. Everyone enjoyed her beautiful and peaceful place on the beach.

Linda is lovingly remembered by her sons; Rick Steidel [Dawn], Rick Chaney [Kerry], Kevin Chaney [Neisha], her siblings; Kathy Newton, Peggy Miller, Bill Newton, Mike Newton, Jeff Newton, & Heidi Miller, her grandchildren; Gavin Steidel, Maison Steidel, Cole Chaney, Sara Beth Chaney, Karson Chaney, JJ Chaney, and Ashton Chaney.
