Paul Niemi

Paul Niemi, age 79, passed away on July 12th, 2025 in Portland, OR. He resided in Ilwaco, Washington.

Born in Yakima, Washington, he was one of four children born to Arvo and Vivian Niemi.

He grew up in Goldendale, Washington. He went to college at Portland State University and graduated with degree of Bachelor of Science. His passion was economics. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways (now XPO Logistics) for 35 years. He worked the entire time in computers.

He enjoyed the great outdoors including forests and sea. He lived on a sailboat for years and had many sailing adventures in the San Juan islands. He was an avid hiker and walker. He also enjoyed motorcycle trips in the western states.

Paul is survived by his two sons, Douglas of Washougal, Washington and Alex of Metairie, Louisiana. He is also survived by his wife, Lona of Ilwaco, Washington. He has only one sister surviving, Diane of Bellingham, Washington.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s, 48th & Pacific Hwy, Seaview, Washington, on August 9th, 11:00 A.M. with a reception following in the adjacent meeting hall. All are welcome.
