Pauline "Polly" Reed

May 8, 1928 — August 8, 2023

Pauline (Polly) Hanselman Reed was born on May 8,1928 in the family home in Ilwaco to Lempi Ida Hanselman and Christian Arthur Hanselman.  She died at 95 years of age on August  8,2023.

She was raised in Ilwaco, graduating with the class of 1946.  She married Jack Reed on Oct. 30, 1943; whom she met when Jack was stationed with the US Air Force in Ilwaco during World War II.  They lived in Ilwaco before moving to Seaview in 1955 where she remained until she moved to Golden Sands Assisted Living in Oct 2021 . She made many friends there.

Polly worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Ben Brattebo of Long Beach in the mid 1960's. She then worked for the City of Ilwaco as the clerk/treasurer starting in 1972.  She retired in 1989 after 17 years of service.

She was a member of the Ilwaco Rebekah Lodge #78 before it merged with the Long Beach Rebekah Lodge in later years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Don R. Grable Unit #48 of Ilwaco.  She was a member of the Ladies of Elks - Long Beach.  She was a member of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, Shoalwater Bay, Chapter #24.  She was a member of the Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church where she took an active role.

Polly loved nothing better than being with her family to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.  She was always very welcoming to all she met and treated everyone with kindness.  She always hosted a Loyalty Day potluck at the house for the entire family.  She liked to cook, and one could always be sure of cookies and such just walking through the kitchen.  You had to have at least one if not two.  Many fond memories for all in the family

She was preceded in death by her mother Lempi Ida Hanselman, her father Christian Arthur Hanselman, her husband of 66 years Jack Reed, her daughter Kathleen Reed Rutzer, her brothers: Phillip Hanselman, Arthur Hanselman, Roy Hanselman, John Hanselman, and George Hanselman, and her sisters: Nellie Hanselman Beasley, Louise Hanselman Beasley, Betty Hanselman Nielsen, and Irene Hanselman Ochol.

She is survived by her sister Gladys Hanselman Fink, her daughter Jackie Reed Vingerud (Jon), grandchildren: Daryl Rutzer, Leland Rutzer, Tami Vingerud Cole, Jason Vingerud, and Tom Vingerud, great grandchildren: Makenzie Rutzer Husted, Mallory Rutzer, Madison Rutzer, Canon Rutzer, Kaylynn Cole Christofferson, Evan Cole, Sam Cole, Finn Cole, Henrik Vingerud, and Allysen Vingerud, great great grandchildren: Ashlynn Christofferson, Briar Rose Christofferson, Oakleigh River Christofferson, Ashden Husted, Addilee Husted, and Andersen Jack Husted, and several nieces and nephews.

We all love you Mom and miss you greatly.  Your shoes will be hard to fill.
