Walter Martin Epler, known affectionately as Walt, passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 82 in Portland, Oregon. Born on November 22, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, where he attended Northeast High School and graduated June 15, 1960. Walt dedicated 22 years of service to the United States Navy, from March 1962 to March 1984, before retiring to a civilian life filled with community service and personal passions.

After his military career, Walt transitioned to a customer service role at Walmart, where he remained for 22 years, bringing joy and assistance to countless individuals with his kindness and friendly demeanor.

Walt was a man of many interests, including gardening, baking, and crafting. He also cherished moments spent caring for his beloved cat, Tioga. These hobbies brought great joy to his life, creating lasting memories for all who knew him.

He is survived by his sister, Maryanne Dougherty; his children, Timothy and Samantha Epler, Kyle and Renae Epler, Kimberly and Stacy Wynn; grandchildren Emily Epler, Chelsea and George Kapetanopoulos, Devin and Brittany Epler, Justin Epler, Sarah Epler, Andrew Epler, Joseph Epler, Emily and Eric Rigsbee, Kaitlyn Epler, Madeira Wynn, Marek Wynn, and Marius Wynn; and great-grandchildren Avery, Cooper, Cameron, Kai, Willow, Amelia, Summer and Dominic. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Helen Epler; brothers Joseph and Charlie Epler; sister Doris O'Hara; and son Brian Epler.

Memorial services will be private, reserved for family members only, reflecting the family's desire for intimacy and personal remembrance. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local Humane Society or the South Pacific County Humane Society (Long Beach Washington), honoring Walt's love for animals.

Walt's life and service will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue to impact future generations.
