"Part of the community since 1955..."
Naselle native son Eldred and wife Dorthy Penttila opened the doors of Penttila's Chapel by The Sea in 1955 in what was then the rural outskirts of south Long Beach. They committed themselves to serve this community with compassionate, sincere, caring and above all, personal service with attention to every detail, no matter the situation or family choice. From Rosburg to Oysterville and points between and beyond, they chose to serve area families as they would themselves be served.
That commitment continues to this day. Since 1989 ownership has been by local residents Liz and Ron Hylton; since 2003 the manager has been Dan Hickey, licensed funeral director and embalmer who served in mortuary services with the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and a graduate of the San Francisco College of Mortuary Sciences; Dale Staudenraus, retired Pacific county deputy sheriff, previously employed in funeral service in past years, provides invaluable assistance when needed; and Mark McClauchghry, assists in numerous capacities and is the crematory operator who has been thoroughly trained by the manufacturer.
With many choosing to leave the local area for essential medical care, it's of value to know that "Penttila's care" is available when and as needed...from Astoria to Longview, Raymond to Cathlamet, Portland to Seattle and points between and beyond. Calling us when needed makes the whole process much simplier and gives peace of mind knowing that everything is being handled locally without any hassle or hustle. We are the only local mortuary licensed in both Washington and Oregon.
If cremation is your choice, having the process conducted at our facility allows family to make arrangements locally knowing that all details are being handled here for their convenience. This minimizes the potential problems when dealing with out of town facilities where personal service is often at a mimimum to say nothing of the logistical hassles of getting the death certificate signed, preparation of the obituary, return of the cremated remains, and arrangement of a memorial service locally if so desired.
Should burial at a local cemetery (or out of the area cemetery) be the choice, Penttila's is the logical choice to handle all details. We have records of all the local cemeteries, will arrange for essential cemetery services and will plan and coordinate all details regarding services.
Need we say more? Eldred wouldn't have it any other way and neither shall it be.
